Russian Railways OJSC project stipulates the modernization of the railway infrastructure of Baikal-Amur and Trans-Siberian railways of the Eastern range. Stage I (2013-2021, financing: 436.2 billion rubles): 670 km of railway tracks were built, the carrying capacity of 144 million tons was achieved; Stage II (2021-2024, financing: 894 billion rubles): it is planned to build over 1,300 km of tracks and increase the carrying capacity to 180 million tons. In total, within the framework of the project, it is planned to modernize railway tracks on 66 railroad hauls, build 7 crossing loops, second tracks on 13 hauls, double-track insertings on 11 hauls, modernize 14 stations, reconstruct 29 facilities, including tunnels, enhance the overhead system, modernize rectifier substations and transport points (37 facilities). By the end of 2022, the carrying capacity will be increased by 14 million tons, to 158 million tons. Construction of Stage III is under examination.
